Meet the Team at Haydel Spine Pain & Wellness
September 17, 2025
When chronic pain begins affecting day-to-day life, having the right specialists makes all the difference. At Haydel Spine Pain & Wellness, our interventional pain providers combine cutting-edge techniques, deep experience, and compassionate care to help patients regain comfort, mobility, and quality of life. Meet the doctors and providers who make it happen.
Michael S. Haydel, MD, FIPP, ABIPP
Dr. Haydel is a board-certified anesthesiologist with specialty training in interventional pain medicine. He earned his MD from Louisiana State University and completed his internship in family medicine at University Medical Center in Lafayette, followed by anesthesiology residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans.
He holds certification from the World Institute of Pain, the American Board of Interventional Pain Physicians, and has been affiliated with societies including the American Academy of Pain Management and the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians.
His expertise spans a broad range of pain-conditions, using interventional methods to minimize reliance on medication and maximize function.
Keith P. Duplantis, MD
Dr. Duplantis brings expertise in both physical medicine & rehabilitation and interventional spine care. After completing medical school at University of Sint Eustatius, he did an internship at LSU Medical Center, followed by residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at LSU.
He further refined his focus on pain through a fellowship in Pain Management at Neuromuscular Medical Associates. He is also a Fellow of Interventional Pain Practice and of Interventional Spine Specialists.
Dr. Duplantis approaches pain care from both a restoration and prevention angle—helping patients not only relieve pain, but regain strength and resilience.
Andrew E. Barker, MD
Dr. Barker received his medical training through LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, then completed both his internship (in internal medicine) and anesthesiology residency at Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans. His fellowship in Pain Medicine and Interventional Pain Management was also at Ochsner.
Dr. Barker is board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology (2024) and brings the latest advances in interventional pain treatment to our clinic.
Daniel R. Clayton, PA-C
Daniel Clayton, PA-C, is a Physician Assistant with decades of experience in health care. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies at LSU (2002), along with earlier degrees in General Studies in Health Care Services (UNO, 1998) and Emergency Health (University of Louisiana Lafayette, 1992).
As PA-C, he works closely with the doctors to evaluate, diagnose, and carry out interventional treatment plans — helping patients through the procedural, post-procedure, and follow-up phases of care. His clinical background means patients can expect both technical skill and attentive support.
Donovan J. Matherne, FNP-C
Donovan Matherne is a Family Nurse Practitioner who joined the team to extend our capacity for personalized care. He holds a Master of Science in Nursing from University of South Alabama (2009) and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Nicholls State University (2001).
He’s certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and is an active member of the American Academy of Pain Management and the Louisiana Association of Nurse Practitioners.
Donovan works as part of our care team to manage pain treatment plans, follow patients’ progress, and ensure comfort and communication throughout their recovery.
